Update on Wat Bowon Renovations

Dear Readers, Wat Bowonniwet Vihara has, for the last few years, undergone a comprehensive renovation project, sponsored in part by the Royal Crown Properties and the Thai Government. This project witnessed the rebirth of the religious buildings (cetiya, chapel, shrine halls, etc.,) as well as many of the beautiful, historic residential buildings that grace the grounds. Also during this period, construction began of a new four-story building to commemorate the 96th birthday anniversary of His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand and current abbot. Even though one may still see several buildings with scaffolding, the majority of the renovations are complete. The following is a summary of the renovations. These seven buildings were renovated with money from the Thai Government: 1) Uposatha Hall, 2) Tipitaka Hall, 3) Siew Kang, 4) Tamnak Panya, 5) Tamnak Songprot, 6) Sahajon, 7) Tamnak Chan. The following four buildings were renovated with monies from the Crown Properties Bureau: 1) Sala Khiew [Sala Anekprasong], 2) the regalia-removing pavilion, 3) Tamnak Phet, 4) Tamnak Derm, 5) Tamnak Koi Tha and surrounding buildings. The following buildings were erected/renovated with monies from the public: 1) The 5th of December 2550, 80 Year Thai Pavilion, 2) three Thai style kutis in Gana Kuti. Buildings refurbished by Wat Bowonniwet: 1) Sala Vajiranyan 150 Years Pavilion. Thai Government budget for 2007: 1) Vihara Phra Sasada, 2) Viharn Kaeng, 3) Sala Karn Parian, 4) Buddha Footprint Hall, 5) Tamnak Panya Dining Hall. Crown Properties Bureau: Bote Rangsee suddhawat . Aside from the buildings mentioned above, the cetiya, one of the most important religious buildings, was renovated as well.
